Wedding Inspiration
On Tuesday we announced our upcoming trunk show with Yumi Katsura next weekend. If you’re new to this whole wedding planning thing, you’re probably wondering, what on earth is a trunk show anyway? Is it a party? Can I try on dresses? Are there lots of people there?
Basically, a trunk show is a great opportunity for a bridal store to host a special event where the store has an extra 20 to 30 gowns for brides to try on for a limited period of time. Usually the extra gowns are straight from the latest runway collections that aren’t even available in any stores yet. Historically, the gowns actually traveled from store to store in large trunks – hence the term “trunk show.”
Twice a year at Bridal Market Week, April and October, designers showcase their newest designs on the runways and then host their buyers in private appointments so they can touch and feel each dress and decide which gowns to purchase for their boutique’s permanent collection. Usually they purchase between 4 and 6 gowns out of the 20+ runway samples which don’t arrive in stock for several more months. In the meantime, the runway collection travels around to bridal shops around the country for trunk shows.
Trunk Shows are a win-win for brides and for boutiques!
